In addition to casting Ohtonen, the sequel film has cast Mariela Garriga (“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”) to replace Monica Bellucci in the role of Mary Magdalene, and Kasia Smutniak (“Domina”) will replace Maia Morgenstern as Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Pier Luigi Pasino will portray the Apostle Peter. Riccardo Scamarcio will play Pontius Pilate. Both are Italian actors.

According to Variety, shooting for the sequel films began in Rome last week.
