Dove Award-winning artist Pat Barrett sat down with ChurchLeaders to discuss his new album “I’ve Got a Fire” and reflected on touring with Sons of Sunday supergroup bandmate Brandon Lake on the King of Hearts Tour.

Barrett, a former member of the worship band Housefires, shared how his new record captures a “lasting faith, not a flashy one” and is rooted in perseverance and an authentic relationship with God.

Barrett is currently a supporting artist on the massive King of Hearts Tour where he joins Lake onstage to sing handful of songs from Lake’s 26-song setlist. Franni Cash, formerly of We the Kingdom, opens the show.

“For this record, I chose songs because I knew some things that were happening later in the year, and it helped inform which songs I chose,” Barrett shared. “’I’ve Got a Fire’ connects to a lot that’s been happening in my life.”

“What I felt in my heart was all those Scriptures about not just running a race but finishing a race,” Barrett explained. “You start to see your life with vision, purpose, and hopefulness for the future. I want the flame that God instilled in me as a young man to burn brighter the older I get.”

Barrett told ChurchLeaders that this record could have only been made during this period of time in his life. “I don’t think I could’ve made this record before this time. I hadn’t lived enough life yet,” he said. “I can think back to the moments where each of these songs were written and see how they helped me see God, the world, or myself in a Christ-centric way that feels lasting.”

“This record is about a lasting faith—not just a flashy one,” Barrett added. “Faith isn’t always Instagrammable. It doesn’t look like a highlight reel. [Faith] is a long walk in the same direction through ups and downs along the way.”
