Laurie recalled a conversation he had with Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika, saying, “She was just talking about all the things that are happening—the wonderful things—but she says, ‘I would trade it all just to have Charlie with me.’” Laurie expressed that he feels the same way about his son. “I said the very same thing to my wife, Cathe. I said, ‘I wish we could have all the amazing things God is doing—but with our son,’” he said. “Well, we’re not given that.”

Laurie then referenced the Old Testament story of Joseph, found in the Book of Genesis. “But you know,” Laurie said, “Joseph said to his brothers, ‘You meant this for evil.’ They sold him into slavery. ‘But God meant it for good to save many people alive.’”

“It’s like there was already a pre-existing revival fire burning, and what happened with Charlie was a massive wake-up call—not just in our country, but around the world,” Laurie argued. “It was like rocket fuel was poured on it.”

Laurie pointed out that a recent surge in Bible sales has been “directly connected…to the date of Charlie’s murder.”

Citing the Book of Acts, Laurie said, “Stephen was martyred, the first martyr of the church, a young man who stood up for his faith. And after he was martyred, it says godly men mourned over him.”

“So there’s a place for mourning and a place for feeling loss,” he continued. “But then you also saw the gospel go out with greater power after the death of Stephen.”

“It’s almost like the church got the collective memo—’Hey, you guys aren’t supposed to have a holy huddle in Jerusalem. Remember, I said go into all the world and preach the gospel after the Holy Spirit comes upon you,’” Laurie said. “So the church really spread out after that. And I see this happening right now among a lot of people, but especially young people.”

On Nov. 16, Laurie will lead a Harvest Crusade at Utah Valley University, the campus where Charlie Kirk was assassinated. The title of the event is “Hope for America.” In addition to Laurie sharing the gospel, the event will feature worship led by Chris Tomlin and Phil Wickham.
