“At a time when many households are being asked to do more with less, this initiative is a reminder of the role faith institutions can play in strengthening communities through decisive action,” said Moore.
In addition to settling medical debts, Spirit and Truth Church also gave away 400 toys to children for Christmas.
Moore told Fox 5, “We’re trying to be relevant to the need and to what the moment requires.”
“We’ve noticed, of course, the recent changes in healthcare,” Moore added, likely referring to the question of whether subsidies offered under the Affordable Care Act will be extended. Moore said, “We made a decision to do something about it.”

“We don’t just want to be a church in the heart of the city,” said Moore. “We really want to have the city in our heart.”
