Whiteside was subsequently arrested on federal charges. She faces two counts of transporting a minor across state lines for sexual activity and one count of coercion and enticement of a minor.

Whiteside’s federal trial had been set to begin on Feb. 9. However, her lawyer requested a continuance “to allow clarification of unresolved issues in Whiteside’s state court case,” according to ABC 24

In November, the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to resentence Whiteside for her state conviction after two people who wrote letters supporting Whiteside revoked their support.

Forty-nine people originally wrote letters in support of Whiteside in the run-up to her sentencing. However, two have since come forward and said that Whiteside concealed her guilt from them and that she strongly pressured them for letters of support.

Whiteside’s attorney has characterized the federal charges against Whiteside as “retaliatory,” stemming from the fact that prosecutors were “really unhappy” with the sentencing ruling in her state case.
