Benjamin Watson, an outspoken Christian and former Patriots teammate of Patten’s, posted a tribute about the “profound impact” Patten had on his life, marriage, and career. “The way he loved his wife inspired me as a young husband,” Watson writes. “I’ll never forget how they would send each other flowers and the way he … told me what a blessing marriage was. God blessed me to have DP in the locker next to mine at a challenging time in my life. He demonstrated his faith in a real and tangible way and encouraged me greatly. He preached the gospel to all who would hear.”
An obituary posted online describes Patten as an “ambassador for Christ” who “refused to leave a soul lost.” The preacher, it notes, “was determined to be the greatest servant-leader. He impacted everyone he met, and his voice will continue to echo in our ears.”
