Joggers Plan to ‘Finish Liza’s Run’ This Friday
The murder made national headlines—and sparked conspiracy theories, accusations, and outrage. Although the investigation into Eliza Fletcher’s death is ongoing, authorities indicate they have “no reason to think this was anything other than an isolated attack by a stranger.” The suspect, Cleotha Abston, recently completely a lengthy prison sentence for kidnapping a Memphis lawyer in 2001.
After some people questioned why Fletcher was jogging at 4:30 a.m. alone, wearing a sports bra and shorts, runners came to her defense. More than 3,000 people have indicated they’ll come to the University of Memphis campus this Friday to “Finish Liza’s Run.” By completing the 8.2-mile route that Fletcher often ran, participants will “stand up for the women in the Mid South and emphasize that women should be able to safely run any time of day.”
Other running groups throughout the country have indicated they’ll also dedicate Friday morning’s run to Fletcher.
