Brooklyn Pastor Robbed During Livestream Sends a Message to Churches at Dove Awards Red Carpet

Whitehead Warns What Happened to Him Can Happen To Other Pastors

“God used me, because I believe he trusts me,” Whitehead said. “I think that the reason why [our church] didn’t get as much traction with this whole model of protecting the church is because I don’t think preachers believed that [what happened to us] could happen [to them].”

The bishop expressed that he felt let down by the “big C” Church following the robbery.

“I didn’t get a lot of support from the pulpit. When things happen in other countries, the churches come together and help other countries, but when things happen domestically we don’t come together at all,” Whitehead argued, citing competition as a possible reason why churches don’t seem to help each other.

“I think now that the world sees that I had nothing to do with [the robbery], now maybe we can take this time to really focus on protecting the houses of worship,” Whitehead continued. “I thank God for utilizing me and using me for this set time and season to bring light on the protection of the church, and to let people understand that trauma is real. We pastors and preachers are needed, you know. Because without the churches, where would this world be?”

Whitehead offered a word of encouragement to the Church around the world by quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says, “If My people will call by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, seek My face, turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and heal the land.”

“I think that if we turn from our wicked ways, seek God’s face, and pray, I think that it’ll change our mindset. Because prayer doesn’t change God’s mind; it changes our mind to line up with what God says,” Whitehead said.

The 53rd GMA Dove Awards, which features performances by Anne Wilson, TobyMac, Steven Curtis Chapman, Blessings Offer, and Maverick City Music, will air this Friday on TBN at 7 p.m., 9 p.m. CT.
