Harrison Wells, who serves as chairperson for Wisconsin YAF, encouraged all students to attend the event, especially those with opposing viewpoints.

“When there’s a predominant viewpoint that is just being pushed, it eliminates discussion. And right now we do not have a discussion,” Wells told the Daily Cardinal.

On the evening of the event, a crowd of about 250 people stood outside the building where the event was being held, chanting, “sexist, racist, anti-gay, Christian fascist go away” and “transphobia has got to go.”

Some demonstrations ended up being as provocative as Walsh himself. YAF tweeted a video wherein protesters could be seen standing amid pages ripped out of Bibles, and one protester could be seen eating some of those pages.

Walsh retweeted the video, saying, “Well, you can be on the side that eats the Bible and castrates children, or you can be on literally any side but that one. Your choice, America.”

In another video, one protester can be seen addressing other demonstrators with a megaphone and saying, “So much of the time, organizing spaces are dominated by White people who don’t give BIPOC a chance to speak. White people, stop being f––king racist!”

“White people, you need to realize your positionality. You need to realize the space you take up, and you need to realize how hard it is every single f––king day for BIPOC people, especially at this institution, okay,” she went on to say.

Meanwhile, at the event inside, Walsh said, “There has never been a culture before ours that believed that men could have babies. Never—that has never existed.”

“Such madness is uniquely modern. Nobody before us was stupid enough to believe something like that. It took the most educated and technologically advanced civilization in history to come up with fantastic bulls––t like that,” Walsh continued.

Walsh’s statement was met with scattered laughter, which then turned to applause and cheering.
