The lesson for our often-impersonal modern world, adds Crouch, is that Christians must do today what the early believers did for Rome: restore culture through “the recognition of persons.”

In his tweet of the clip, Pastor Smethurst writes that Crouch reveals “the subversive beauty of an obscure verse.” Leah Boyd, a seminarian, adds: “I didn’t know I could love Romans 16 more than I already did.”

Other commenters thank Crouch for making the Bible “come alive.” One writes: “Huh. It’s almost as if life in Christ renders moot all worldly human divisions…”
