‘Servant Leader’ Tony Dungy Rings Bell for Salvation Army in Florida

As ChurchLeaders has reported, the Salvation Army has faced—and addressed—allegations of racism. One response to Dungy’s December 7 bell-ringing photo noted: “[You’re] a fine man coach but so long as the @SalvationArmyUS discriminates against those that are in need or oppressed, they get not one penny from this former kettle donator.”

Dungy, who often interacts with people on Twitter, asked for details and received this reply: “Their anti-LBGTQ stance is well documented over the years.” The Salvation Army denies those claims, saying they love and welcome all people.
