‘Problems Have a Purpose’: Phoenix Suns Chaplain Returns to Pulpit Two Months After Massive Stroke

Impact Church, which grew out of a Bible study for the Arizona Cardinals, now attracts more than 15,000 unique visitors monthly. Last week, the church released its second worship song, “I Need Jesus.”

Hearn, who’s written several books about faith, didn’t grow up in the church. But a drunk-driving arrest at age 17—and counsel from a pastor afterward—served as a wakeup call and led to life change. “The unique thing about my story,” Hearn said last May, “is that I was the least likely [to become a pastor]. I was trouble. Since that day, I did a literal 180.”
