“It took me many years to kind of be able to publicly talk about [my faith],” Horford went on to say. “But one of the things that I always felt like I had to do was that I had to speak about it. I had to speak about my faith. I had to speak about all the wonders that God is doing in my life, you know, how much he has changed me.”
Horford continued, “Over the years, I’ve seen that change in me for the better, and he’s guiding me. He’s showing me his way.”
When asked how he stays connected to God during the course of the busy NBA season, Horford said that he always begins his day with prayer and reading the Bible. While traveling, he also tries to find local churches to attend.
“I’m always making sure I give that time. For me, it’s so important, and it makes such a big difference for me in the way that I feel,” Horford said.
Horford, who was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to America when he was a teen, said that while he has always read a Spanish translation of the Bible, he has begun studying the Bible in English so that he can more easily talk about it when the opportunity arises.
