George Verwer and his family ended up relocating to London, England. From there, he led Operation Mobilization until 2003. He continued to pray for people, countries, and current events. Verwer also wrote many books, including “Revolution of Love,” “Out of the Comfort Zone,” and “Confessions of a Toxic Perfectionist.”
The tribute said, “His authentic lifestyle and zeal for the spread of the gospel have motivated countless individuals and churches into more intentional mission involvement.”

Nearly 20,000 people have viewed the social media announcement, and many have shared their comments and condolences.
One person shared, “Words are not enough to describe this precious hero of the faith. Well done, good and faithful servant!”
“Great picture wearing a world map shirt,” another said, referring to the photo of Verwer in the tweet. “If I can use the word ‘underrated’ to describe a missionary, George was it. He was a giant of a man in Christian missions.”
A friend of George and Drena’s posted a note of remembrance on the organization’s website, saying, “I was one of those in 1959 who when [sic] to some all night prayer meetings at Moody. Emmaus and Wheaton. God used George and those times of prayer to radically change my life. Thank you Lord, so much, for George and Drena.”
“Connie and I will miss George’s incredible passion for enlarging Heaven’s population,” shared someone else. “We served with OM for over 20 years and got to meet with him several times in the US and in Europe and we always were encouraged by him. Prayers are being lifted.”
Another said, “God used George to radically redirect my life and call me into missions back at Urbana 1996. Ever since then, George was there for me and my whole family, mentoring, communicating with and praying for us. What a gracious gift from God he was to us!”
