“I’ve seen God work through me to meet some people right where they are,” Lecrae said. That’s why God “put us on Earth, to be salt, to be light…I can sit in my armchair and throw stones at somebody and it doesn’t cost me anything. But love is costly, because love equals sacrifice.”

He explained, “Love means you are absorbing whatever comes along with it and if you choose to put yourself on the line for somebody, to say, ‘Hey, man, I don’t care if I’m associated with this person, if it demonstrates that I have love for them, then I’ll take it.’”

“When I think of people like Lil Nas X…I’m just reminded of so many characters in Scripture,” Lecrae said, specifically referencing Zacchaeus.

Lecrae encouraged Christians to follow God’s example of patience. “God is very patient and we’re not,” he said, “and I think we should be following his pathway of patience with people.”

As he wrapped up the podcast, Lecrae spoke directly to Lil Nas X, saying, “I don’t know you…but I’m down to get to know you. I’d love to get to know you. I don’t know your motivations. I don’t assume to know your burdens or desires or your story, but I’m here if you want to share it.”

If Lil Nas X does reach out to him, Lecrae assured the secular rapper that he has “no desire to make a public spectacle out of it.” For example, he said he wouldn’t be posting pictures on social media of them hanging out and that his only desire is to see Lil Nas X “become everything God wants” him to be.

“So, man, I’m here. I will not be one of the ones who exists to condemn and to criticize you because I know what grace tastes like,” Lecrae said. “I know what forgiveness tastes like.”

Lecrae concluded by telling Lil Nas X that he would “be the last person to cast judgment and condemnation on you, but I’d love to walk you through who I believe is the most gracious, loving, satisfying person in existence.”

“That’s Jesus! The authentic Jesus,” he added. “Not the character that maybe society has drawn up for you that hates you, but the one who was willing to sacrifice his life on behalf of the least the these, on behalf of the degenerates, on behalf of the killers, tax collectors, and the prostitutes. That’s the one I’d love you to get to know.”
