“Pastor MacArthur’s counsel on that issue would be completely different from the counsel Alistair Begg said he gave an inquiring grandmother,” Johnson said. “So both agreed that it was necessary for Pastor Begg to withdraw.”
In addition to Johnson’s roles as co-pastor and executive director, he also serves as the primary editor to MacArthur’s books.
Begg last spoke at the Shepherds Conference in 2015. He spoke on 2 Timothy 4:1-5, and the title of the conference that year was “The Inerrancy Summit.”
It is unknown if Begg’s comments will result in him being removed from any other upcoming speaking engagements. Begg is currently scheduled to speak alongside Mark Dever, Ligon Duncan, Shai Linne, Matt Papa, Matt Boswell, Keith and Kristyn Getty, and more at this year’s Sing! Conference in September.
Begg’s daily radio program, “Truth for Life,” was dropped by American Family Radio (AFR) on Jan. 24 as a result of Begg standing behind his counsel to the grandmother.
