Putnam urged congregants not to cut themselves off from the support of others, because then “you’re cutting yourself off from how God ministers to you.” Mature faith, he added, is realizing that we’ll always need to give and receive help from fellow Christians.

“Pastors will fall” because they’re human, Putnam acknowledged. “Sometimes as pastors you see enough stuff that doesn’t make sense… You deal with fires all the time, you start to think all there is is fires. It’s not true.”

What ultimately matters, Putnam concluded, is that Jesus never failed—and never failed us. “The war has been won” by Jesus, he said, telling congregants not to believe the devil’s lie “that we’re not overcomers.”
