A teaching elder from Alaska, Jerid Krulish, called the investigation into Young’s devotional a “fishing expedition” that would waste the time of committee members. Kevin Twit, a hymn writer, noted that other Christian works sometimes summarize theological concepts using God’s voice.
Daniel Wells, a Tennessee pastor who knows Young’s family members, questioned the overture’s timing. “They are still grieving,” he said, referencing the author’s recent death.
In December 2022, Young told her social media followers she had been diagnosed with blood cancer. In a 2021 email interview, she said, “When I sit down to write, I always ask God to connect his infinite sufficiency with my utter insufficiency.” Young added that her “health struggles help me rely on Jesus and work collaboratively with him.”
