“I support Roe v. Wade,” said Biden, “which had three trimesters.”

“First time is between the woman and a doctor. Second time is between a doctor and an extreme situation. The third time is between…the woman and the state,” Biden continued. “The idea that…the founders wanted the politicians to be the ones making decisions about a woman’s health is ridiculous…No politician can make that decision. A doctor should be making those decisions.”

“That’s how it should be run. That’s what’s gonna do,” Biden added. “And if I’m elected, I’m gonna restore Roe v. Wade.”

“This is simply not an accurate description of Roe, @JoeBiden,” posted Dr. Ed Stetzer, dean of Talbot School of Theology and editor-in-chief of Outreach Magazine, in response to Biden’s words. “Under Roe, the US was among a group of 7 nations w/ extreme abortion laws, including China & NoKorea, allowing elective abortions after 20 weeks.”

“Biden’s attempt to explain the Roe decision was barely coherent, & the part that was coherent was a lie. Roe & its companion decision Doe gave us abortion on demand through all 9 months of pregnancy,” wrote Dr. Denny Burk, president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. “Biden is not telling the truth when he denies this.”

In an op-ed for WORLD, Dr. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said that both Biden and Trump “failed on the issue of abortion, but they did not fail equally.”

“Biden was partly incoherent and partly dishonest. When Trump accused him of supporting late-term abortions, Biden denied the charge and blustered about legislating Roe v. Wade,” Mohler continued. “The dishonest part is when Biden got away without saying that he would not sign a bill supported by congressional Democrats that would indeed allow for late-term abortions (perhaps right up to birth).”

“He would surely sign such a bill,” Mohler argued, “and he knows full well that all the talk about legislating Roe, as horrible as that would be, is patently dishonest.”

Lila Rose, president and founder of Live Action, a pro-life advocacy group, criticized the policy positions of both Biden and Trump when it comes to abortion.

“Trump deserves credit for the overturn of Roe,” she wrote. “But he is wrong about abortion policy being a decision for states. That is not even what Dobbs said. Every person has a right to equal protection under the law. Abortion is unconstitutional.”
