One of the key issues for most evangelical voters is abortion. Notably, Harris is vocally supportive of access to abortion, making it a key talking point in her election bid.
However, as ChurchLeaders reported earlier this year, the Republican National Committee (RNC) drew sharp criticism from Christian leaders after it softened its stance against abortion. This shift has made some evangelicals open to voting for a pro-choice candidate, given that they feel that neither of the two major parties is sufficiently pro-life.
SBC Pastor Dwight McKissic Endorses Kamala Harris
McKissic, who is the founder and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in Arlington, Texas, opened his portion of the call with prayer.
“In the words of your Son, Jesus the Christ, we pray, let thy kingdom come and let thy will be done in this election season on earth as it is in heaven,” he prayed.
McKissic followed up his prayer by telling those on the call that as a “citizen of God’s kingdom and America, and after much soul searching, I have concluded that the better person and best qualified person in this election…is by far Madam Vice President Kamala Harris.”
McKissic believes that “voting for the best qualified candidate and the better person, rather than voting strictly along party lines, should be the guiding principle in determining who to vote for as president of the United States.”
McKissic pointed out that Trump has been “indicted and convicted for 34 felony crimes and engaged in name-calling and insults as a campaign strategy.”
“We can do better than this,” McKissic said. Praising Harris’s accomplishments, he added, “Only one candidate has the temperament and track record to bring a sense of unity and forward movement toward the lofty goal expressed in our Pledge of Allegiance, and that is to become one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.”
“I believe America can go forward under Madam Vice President Kamala Harris,” McKissic said. “Donald Trump seeks to divide us. Kamala Harris seeks to unite us.”
The pastor of over 35 years shared that he believes “life begins at conception, and innocent, ongoing life in the womb must be protected.” He also said he believes in the “sanctity of marriage between a man and woman” and that the “image of God is stamped across every person in the world, and they must be treated with dignity and respect.”
