Grand Canyon University, America’s Largest Christian University, Wins Court Case Regarding Its Nonprofit Status

In April 2024, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona threatened to shutter GCU, calling it “predatory” for “preying on first-generation students.”

Republican lawmakers contend that the Education Department is “biased” against the Christian university and has subjected it to “un-American and unconstitutional…harassment.” In May, Arizona GOP Rep. Paul Gosar said, “The Biden administration has waged an all-out assault on GCU seemingly because it is the largest Christian university in the country. This is the latest example of the Biden administration’s weaponization of the federal government.”

In February, the conservative Goldwater Institute sued the U.S. Education Department for refusing to provide public records regarding its fine of GCU. Those records, the institute claimed, could show the “intentional targeting of a successful university based on extraordinarily thin allegations.”
