Jeanty, who turned 21 last week, said he grew up in a Christian home but didn’t make his faith his own until college. After struggling with depression at Boise State, he said he decided to “give my life to [Jesus] and change my ways, [and] it’s been an ultimate transformation.” Christianity is a “big thing” at the university, the athlete added, and “I learned to embrace that.”

Next to a video he posted in September for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Jeanty wrote, “A Christian cleverly disguised as an All American running back.” In the clip, he said, “I’ve learned that God has blessed me with amazing talents. I’ve just been able to do a lot of great things with it, but at the same time, not losing yourself in it and understanding that my identity is in Christ.”

In the Heisman race, Jeanty is considered to be neck-and-neck with Travis Hunter, a two-way standout at the University of Colorado. The trophy for college football’s top player will be awarded Saturday (Dec. 14) in New York City.
