Pastor Darron Carmon Helps People Heal From Pain
Carmon, who pastors two churches, became so despondent in prison that he attempted suicide. “It just got so bad I didn’t want to breathe,” he said. “I had nothing to look forward to…so I didn’t want to wake up anymore.” But Carmon said he’s grateful he “continued to fight…declaring my own innocence.”

Now the pastor is determined to use that trauma “for some good,” by serving his community. “It’s the way I deal with my own pain, is by helping other people heal from theirs,” he said.
About the 30-year fight to clear his name, Carmon said, “It should’ve been a simpler process. I’ve had to prove my innocence about three times.” But he also expressed thanks, saying, “I’m grateful to God that I have made it to this place.”
As part of his work in the community, the North Carolina pastor fights for racial justice and mentors fatherless children.
