“I don’t want to live in fear. I think as Christians, there’s such an element of faith and believing God’s gonna take care of us, but also being prepared for the worst,” Smallbone said. “So my hope would be that people have conversations about preparing for something like this.”

The director also emphasized the importance of reconnecting with creation.

“I look at a lot of the issues that we have as a society and [trace it] to our disconnection to the Creator the things that he’s created,” Smallbone said, “and whether that’s being outside and exploring the mountains, whether that’s gardening, whether that’s raising animals when you connect with those things, to me, it’s a direct connection to Christ. It’s a direct connection to the Creator.”

“So my hope would be that through this film and the series that people are inspired to kind of embrace the old ways, Smallbone said.

Smallbone hopes that audiences will be inspired to “embrace the old ways, to look at some of the simple things of life and gardening and raising animals and farming, and being outdoors and being present in his creation.” The director believes “it does something to your heart and soul.”

‘Homestead’ Is More Than Just a Movie; It’s a Series Too

“Homestead” doesn’t end with its closing credits. A QR code will direct viewers to two episodes that kick off a new series on Angel.com.

“The film is just the beginning,” Smallbone said. “I am passionate and excited about the movie, but even more so about the series. I hope that everybody that sits in that movie theater on Dec. 20 that watches the movie clicks on that link and is able to experience the series.”

While a post-apocalyptic movie might seem like an unusual choice for Christmas, Smallbone sees it differently.

“At the end of the film, the title comes up: ‘The End Is Just the Beginning,’” he said. “That’s true for the story and the series. But I look at some of the things throughout my life where I thought it was the end. And truly those ending moments were the beginning of a greater story of what God was doing in my life.”

With its blend of action, faith, and thought-provoking themes, “Homestead” offers a unique cinematic experience. Whether they’re drawn to the suspense of an apocalyptic thriller or the deeper exploration of faith under pressure, this film promises to leave audiences wanting more.
