“Jesus Christ is the only true God,” he said. “He died, rose from the dead three days later. That’s the champion that I serve.”

“Thank you, Coach D,” Hassanein added. “Like, seriously, you changed my life.”

Ashton Jeanty Praises God Despite Coming Up 28 Yards Shy of Barry Sanders’ Record

Junior running back Ashton Jeanty followed Hassanein’s comments by praising God for the team’s accomplishments.

“First of all, glory to God for bringing us this far, for helping us restore the order this year. We couldn’t do without him,” Jeanty said.

Jeanty, who finished 28 yards shy of Barry Sanders’ 36-year-old NCAA all-time single-season rushing yard record of 2,601, told reporters, “You know, keeping God first is what’s got us here. This season has been a blessing. God’s favor has been upon me and all my teammates all year. I’m just thankful.”

Jeanty is projected to go in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft if he decides to declare and forgo his senior year.
