Church of England Responds to Reports It Banned Gluten-Free Communion Wafers

In the statement, the Church of England linked to an FAQ page of the Coeliac [Celiac] UK website, which is dedicated to resourcing people living with conditions that make them intolerant to gluten. 

“There are special ‘low gluten’ hosts that have been approved for use by individuals with coeliac disease when taking Communion,” the site explains. “These products contain wheat starch, but are within the levels for labelling gluten free.”

The site provides a list of wafers that are safe for individuals with gluten intolerances.
