Lake shared one of his favorite responses to someone “hating” on the collaboration.

“A dude was like, ‘Hold up. Please, remember, we have been praying for things like this to happen,’” Lake recalled.

“Like, man, we know we need to go into the world and bring the gospel and bring the light. And then it happens and they’re like no, not him, [or] not that way. But the truth is,” Lake said, “I have been so, so encouraged by how positive the response has been.”

Jelly Roll said that he hopes people at his shows hear the name of Jesus for the first time and are impacted.

“I think it becomes more real to people too. It didn’t feel like this forced collaboration that was a money move, because by God’s grace, neither one of us needed,” Jelly Roll explained. “It was a genuine, like a real thing. If I’d have been in here, like, ‘I’ve been saved and redeemed!’ Everybody would be like, ‘That’s great!’” But, he said, “I don’t know if it would have the same impact.”

“Then it does with me just being like, yo man, I believe in Jesus, y’all, wholeheartedly or I wouldn’t be sitting here. I don’t have any doubt about who the Son of Man is,” he said. “That’s for sure. I’m figuring out the rest of it, y’all, just stick with me. But I think I got the most important part down.”

Carlos praised Jelly Roll for being one of the most “honest” and “refreshing” people he’s talked to and told him that he “wished more Sunday to Sunday believers were the same way.”

“There a lot of folks who I see on Sundays who will tell you, ‘Well, I’m doing fine,’ but internally they’re dying,” Carlos added. “And here you are saying, ‘I may not have it all figured out yet, but I’m walking towards one can.’”

As they concluded their interview, Jelly Roll credited friends like Lake, whom he said God brought into his life, for reinvigorating his faith in Jesus.
