“It was a real-life circumstance that was happening, so Kristen and her family live in Tampa, Florida,” Varvel shared. “While we’re filming, Hurricane Helene came through at that time. And I kept asking Kris, ‘[Are] your husband and children okay? Like, is your house going to be there?’”
As the storm reached dangerous levels, Wollett’s family joined her on location in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“There I am at the hotel,” Varvel explained. “I see Justin, Kristen’s husband, their kids, and they just have this sense of peace and joy, not knowing if or when they go home [or if] their house is still going to be standing.”
Varvel said that seeing their “faith in action ministered to me. It showed me that we serve a God who we can trust, and even when the literal storms of life are going to be beating down on you that we serve a God that we can trust.”
“That’s definitely an element that’s in the show,” Varvel added. “But it was a practical, real-life moment that we all experienced vicariously through their family. And it blessed me so immensely and then challenged me to go deeper in my trust with the Lord.”
