“I remember at the end of the day, after dozens of takes and exhaustion, I’m like, ‘Sorry, guys, I know this is taking so long,’” Jenkins said, only to have them respond, “This is one of the best days of my life.”

Jenkins recalled, “There are people who were just weeping with joy to be part of it.”

Jenkins went on to share that during that scene, Noah James, who plays Andrew, got emotional and had to ask Jenkins how he was supposed to be acting because it was so “humbling” and “overwhelming.”

“James was speaking for all of us when he described what he was feeling during that scene,” Jenkins explained. “You’d think it’d be easy to go, ‘Wow, look at all these people, and they’re our fans, and we’ve got 100 million viewers, and we have the opportunity to tell the greatest, most interesting story in Jesus’ life.’”

“And yet,” Jenkins said, “We’re going, ‘Wow, we are really small. This is really humbling.’”

Jenkins said that scenes that produce those types of humbling experiences during filming are “good.” It’s something, he said, that “we experience all the time on the show…Our egos aren’t growing with the growth of the show. Our egos are reducing because we know we’re not this good.”

The Chosen: Last Supper” Part 1, which includes Episodes 1 and 2 of Season 5, releases in theaters this Friday (March 28).
