He continued, “I’m loving the way you just came out on stage, put your foot down, and killed it.”
This isn’t the first time Nix has sung of her faith during the competition. The week before, Nix and fellow contestant Rylie O’Neill sang Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude” in a head-to-head round.
The show’s first Artist in Residence, Jelly Roll, was backstage during the performance. Before Nix and O’Neill took the stage, he said, “By the spirit in you alone, I know that y’all connect in an emotional way that most people don’t.”
Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake have become friends as the two have collaborated on Lake’s “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” Jelly Roll FaceTimed Lake to let him witness the performance on “American Idol.” Lake was honored to speak with Nix and O’Neill.
“That was the most gorgeous version of ‘Gratitude’ I have ever heard,” said Lake. “Oh my goodness. I’m so honored. Thank you so much.”
‘American Idol’ Has Seen Multiple Christian Artists on Stage
For nearly 25 years, “American Idol” has brought incredible performances and exciting contestants to the stage. Christian artists are often represented among the wide range of contestants, voices, talent, and backgrounds.
Carrie Underwood competed and won the fourth season of “American Idol.” After several recorded albums and acting performances, mostly playing herself, Underwood has been the voice behind the “NBC Sunday Night Football” theme song since 2013. She now serves as a judge on “American Idol.”
“With my life laid down, I surrendered now / I give you everything, oh Lord / your goodness is running after, it’s running after me,” sang Underwood as she recently led worship at a Tennessee church.
With dozens of recordings, Colton Dixon has won multiple Dove Awards and continues to seek God in his life and in his music. Dixon competed in the 11th season of “American Idol.”
“Trying to figure out what God’s plan is for our life, I feel like, has been a source of contention amongst a lot of people,” said Dixon. Dixon believes the Holy Spirit led him to Jeremiah 29:11 for his recent song, “UP + UP.”
Award-winning Christian artist Lauren Daigle competed on “American Idol” in 2010 and 2012. She has since won several music awards for her recordings. Daigle recently sang “America the Beautiful” in New Orleans at the Super Bowl.
