“Under the purported Bylaws ‘updates,’ the Senior Pastor would also have nearly dictatorial authority over church business and staff,” the suit claims.

The suit continues:

These purported “updates” state, “The Senior Pastor shall supervise and control all the business in day-to-day affairs of the Church; shall be responsible for hiring a staff of his choice; shall supervise directly or by delegation all staff members so hired; and shall be vested with the authority, subject to…contract, to terminate any staff member’s employment with or without cause.”

The suit further claims that while Ed Young had told the congregation he would still be involved with the church after passing the reins to his son, when Ben Young stepped into the role of senior pastor, Ed Young was instructed to “vacate his office” and cease his involvement in church leadership.

The suit also claims that Ben Young “summarily fired” other key executive level staff members at the church.

Thus, the suit is seeking a “permanent injunction” requiring the Young family “to cease and desist from all actions or conduct based on or resulting from the incorrect assertion that the purported ‘updates’ or amendments to the 2005 Bylaws are valid.”

This injunction would include revoking Ben Young’s authority as the church’s senior pastor.
