After mentioning the lawsuit, Pastor Ben Young discussed the leadership structure and organization at Second Baptist. “I am privileged, honored, humbled to do life and to lead with men of God,” he said, plus “hundreds of others on our staff here at Woodway and our various campuses.”
In addition to staff, Second Baptist has “a ministry leadership team-slash-board comprised of pastors, lawyers, and financial leaders to help serve this church,” Young told worshipers. “Some on the team are church members. Others are independent of Second…but they have decades of experience serving the local church.”
Second Baptist also has a yearly independent audit, plus finance and budget teams comprised of church members, according to Young.
About the amended bylaws, the new senior pastor said those updates “were prayed through and worked through biblically and legally, and the members who were trustees at that time unanimously approved and recommended them to the church.” He added, “These bylaws were voted on by the church to a virtual unanimous decision nearly two years ago.”
Opinions about church governance vary, Young said from the worship stage. But he assured Second Baptist members:
Our pastors, our financial leaders, our attorneys, our laypeople here that are in this service, and others who help lead and serve this church family, will continue to do so with deep care, excellence, and creativity as we seek to fulfill God’s call on this church to worship, walk, and win others to Christ.
