“The United States, as I noted as well, is also very diplomatically involved but also providing a level of intelligence alongside it,” Duerr continued. “So I don’t think the U.S. wants to get involved in any major way, but at the same time, to allow Iran a nuclear weapon, to allow a major strike on Israel, those are red lines.”
Duerr shared that he personally believes that the U.S. will remain on the sidelines but said “it’s hard to know.”
The Cedarville professor noted that “Hamas threatened the United States with some form of terrorist attack in the last couple of days,” but he said, “I don’t see something like that happening.” This doesn’t rule out a “lone wolf attack” though, Duerr warned. There are also “U.S. troops in the region. [And they are] always targeted by Iran and Iran-backed militias.”
Christians should be paying attention to this conflict, Duerr said. “A lot of people are coming to know Christ. The fastest growing mission field in the world is Tehran and other major cities in Iran. It’s quite remarkable.”
“The Lord is doing a mighty work,” he added. “We’re seeing prison doors fly open just randomly in the same way that we see in the New Testament.”
“These things are happening inside of Iran. People are coming to know the Lord through dreams, just strange things that we don’t consider in the United States,” Duerr said. “So the church needs to be fervently praying for the people, for change, and for God’s purposes to play out because there’s also a lot of persecution.”
