Sophia had built a robust life with friends and community when she found out her ex-husband had escaped from the maximum security prison. She’s faced with having to tell her now-teenage daughter the truth about the father so the mother and daughter can protect themselves.
The “Spy Kids” star has played other roles in faith-based films, such as her role as Bella Harlan in “Get Him Back for Christmas.” That movie highlights the good work of The Salvation Army and was inspired, in part, by PenaVega and her husband’s volunteering with the organization after fires struck Lahaina, Hawaii. PenaVega’s faith impacts her life on and off the screen.
“I feel like the enemy is fine with you making a not good movie, because he knows eventually you’ll turn the channel because you just want to watch better entertainment,” said PenaVega, “which then can result in compromising your morals and [watching] the things you want to keep away from your heart.”
Lifetime Continues Faith-Based Films With Adaptation of Christian Author Terri Blackstock’s Novel
A story by New York Times best-selling author Terri Blackstock served as the basis for Lifetime’s film, “If I Run,” airing on Aug. 2. Casey Cox, played by Kat Graham, flees when she finds out her best friend has been killed—and that Cox is the suspect. As a struggling investigator looks into her case, he finds that Cox might actually be innocent.
“Blackstock is absolutely masterful at bringing spiritual dilemmas to the surface and allowing readers to wrestle with them alongside her characters,” said Melissa Parcel of the Romantic Times.
The last movie in Lifetime’s faith-based film lineup is “Finding Faith,” which airs on Aug. 9. Paula Patton plays Faith, a woman whose husband dies suddenly. The events that follow cause Faith to lose trust in God, and Faith struggles to rebuild her life—and her faith—one day at a time.
