Jen Hamilton, a keynote speaker and nurse by trade, has more than 4 million followers on TikTok and another million on Instagram. The North Carolina resident isn’t afraid to talk politics and use her platform to argue that the MAGA movement, while supported by many Christians, directly contradicts the words of Jesus.
Recently, she went viral with a TikTok video making that very point.
“The video was about the hypocrisy of people claiming to follow Jesus while supporting a movement that actively harms the specific communities He called us to love,” Hamilton told HuffPost.
Is There Such a Thing as a ‘Christian MAGA’? Jen Hamilton Says To Use Caution
Despite the current administration’s creation of the White House Faith Office, many Christians, including Jen Hamilton, are seeing policies that are inconsistent with their faith practices. Hamilton has created a series of videos that directly compare Jesus’ words with current headlines.
“Sit down. It’s time for Bible study,” posted Hamilton, alongside a brief video. She “mistakenly” read from Revelation 13:3, which says, “I saw that one of the heads of the beast seemed wounded beyond recovery—but the fatal wound was healed! The whole world marveled at this miracle and gave allegiance to the beast.”
She quickly said, “That’s not the right one. I’m sorry.”
Hamilton then read the Great Commandment from Mark 12:28-31, and ended with, “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
“Whoa. Be careful there,” one follower commented when Hamilton sought resources for those deconstructing their loyalty to the MAGA movement. “I am happily MAGA and absolutely love Jesus. We are exhausted from liberal nonsense.”
Hamilton responded with another video. Hamilton said, “Try reading the red words,” referring to Jesus’ words printed in red in the Bible.
“Basically, I sat down at my kitchen table and began to read from Matthew 25 while overlaying MAGA policies that directly oppose the character and nature of Jesus’ teachings,” Hamilton said to HuffPost, describing her response video.
