Muhubao would schedule at meeting with Johnson at 4 p.m. but show up at the church at 10 a.m. to pray in the sanctuary.
“He would pray for the DRC and [started to] tell me about DRC,” Johnson said. “Then I started praying with him about DRC. And then our church begins to pray with him about DRC because he’s so moved by the conflict [happening there].”
Although it had been more than 15 years since Muhubao had been in the DRC, his dedication of prayer to see the hope of Jesus bring peace to the DRC spread among the congregation of his new church.
Johnson shared that he watched God place people in his path, including DRC Ambassador Antoine Ghonda, preparing this trip that allowed them to proclaim the gospel to a country in need of peace.
“It was on June 23, 2019, President Félix Tshisekedi chose to solemnly dedicate the DR Congo to God. This was at the Stadium of the Martyrs with 80,000 people,” Johnson shared.
He added, “Then on June 27, 2025, a peace agreement was signed between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda in Washington, D.C., thanks to President Donald J. Trump.”

As he concluded, Johnson encouraged the American church to be praying for the DRC, for continued peace, a spirit of revival, and laborers because the harvest is plentiful.
O’Brien told ChurchLeaders that during his time in the DRC, he witnessed a hunger for Jesus from the Congolese people he rarely sees anywhere else. “They are hungry for a hope and peace that only Jesus can bring,” he said.
