Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Dr. Albert Mohler wrote an essay honoring MacArthur. In it the theologian said:

John MacArthur will be greatly missed and deeply mourned. He demonstrated faithfulness over a long lifetime of honorable ministry—a remarkable gift to Christ’s church. His race is now complete—and what a remarkable race it was. But, remember this: Pastor John MacArthur would be the first to say that the priority above all other priorities is that the faithful exposition of Holy Scripture continue until Jesus comes. Soli Deo Gloria.

“Few men finish well,” Virgil Walker wrote, “John MacArthur is one of them. Grace to You shaped my theology from afar. When I met him, I found humility, conviction, and faithfulness.

Worship leader Sean Feucht posted, Pastor John MacArthur has passed into glory tonight. When the church was in desperate need of bold voices to stand against Newsom’s attacks against the church, I was honored to be listed along with this general.”

Feucht added, “Theological differences evaporate in times like these. His unwavering stance emboldened my younger heart. Now he receives his full reward. 🙏🏽”

Conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey said, “Oh, what an enormous loss for us. But what incredible joy for him. Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Master.”

“John MacArthur has gone home,” William Wolfe, founder and executive director of the Center for Baptist Leadership, posted. “His faith is now sight, and he has entered his rest and eternal reward—perfect fellowship with God forever.”

“Words fail to convey what his ministry has meant to so many of us,” said Wolfe, “but for now, this will suffice: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

J.D. Greear, senior pastor of The Summit Church, shared, “As with many, from John MacArthur I learned that the Scriptures never cease to amaze, they are an inexhaustible well of delights, that they give both the Christian soul and the Preacher sufficient resources to thrive for eternity.”

“As pastors, we don’t need to look to our ideas or our creativity to sustain ourselves or the people we are called to lead,” Greear continued. “Give yourself wholly to the Scriptures. They are God’s word for his people, not idle words, but our very life. MacArthur’s commentaries were 90% of the books I took with me when I went overseas as a missionary.”

“He taught me so much about studying the Bible,” Greear added. “Thank you, Pastor John, for teaching this and demonstrating it so faithfully. Many of us are different, more confident in God’s Word, because of you.”
