In Matthew 9:36, it is written, “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Evangelists must genuinely care for people’s spiritual well-being, reaching out with kindness, patience, and understanding.

5. A Commitment to Discipleship
Evangelism is not just about leading people to make a one-time decision for Christ—it involves discipleship. Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 commands believers to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” A strong evangelist is committed to helping new believers grow in their faith, providing guidance, encouragement, and biblical teaching.
6. A Life That Reflects the Gospel
An evangelist’s life should be a testimony of the Gospel they preach. Paul urged believers in Philippians 1:27, “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Hypocrisy can hinder evangelistic efforts, while a life of integrity, humility, and righteousness reinforces the message of salvation. People are more likely to respond to the Gospel when they see it lived out authentically.
A strong evangelist possesses qualities that align with biblical teachings—faithfulness, passion, courage, compassion, commitment to discipleship, and a life that reflects Christ. By developing these characteristics, believers can become effective messengers of the Gospel, leading others to salvation and strengthening the body of Christ. Whether through personal interactions, preaching, or missions, evangelists play a vital role in fulfilling God’s call to spread His Word to all nations.
