Evangelism and the Edification in a Cell Church

Although our lessons at the Elim church are focused on evangelism, it is inevitable for them to be at the same time edifying to the believers. It is not possible to present Jesus as Savior without going through the teachings of Scriptures. Especially when the lessons consist of systematic studies of whole books of the New Testament that are developed verse by verse.

Even though it is not our primary goal to see that believers reach maturity in the cell, somehow, they are edified by the teaching of God’s word and by listening to the exposition of the Gospel.

Where then is the maturation of Elim’s Christians produced? The answer is in the celebrations. But it is important to make clear that Elim members attend the celebration services three times a week. I know that for other countries this might seem excessive. But this simply shows the Latino’s fire and desire to learn and grow in Bible teaching. Of course, I understand that things are different in other cultures. They are different even in our own branch churches outside of El Salvador.

There is a balance between the evangelization work in the cells and the edification in the celebrations. The maturity gained in the celebration allows our members to exert effective evangelization in the cells. Reaching out in the cells gives our people a desire to learn more in the celebration services. Thus, the two wings of the cell church work together to allow the church to soar.
