The “Equality Act” should be concerning to anyone who values religious freedom and true equality. Yet, the passage of this legislation is more likely than ever before.

But if the “Equality Act” is passed – which President Biden has promised to push for in the first 100 days of his administration – not even churches and religious schools will be safe from the government’s reach.

Fifty-seven Black Christian leaders have written a letter to members of the U.S. Senate’s Judiciary Committee expressing support for sweeping LGBTQ rights but asking for a new bill that includes religious exemptions.

While discrimination toward people created in the image of God should, indeed, be opposed, the Equality Act does so in ways that significantly disregard religious liberty concerns.

The Equality Act, officially known as H.R. 5, would substantially expand discrimination protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
