Turmoil at the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission has increased calls to disband the denomination's public policy arm, but some SBC pastors say it can and should be saved.

In a statement given to Baptist Press, Kevin Smith, former ERLC board chair, said that he was "convinced...that we had a consensus to remove Brent Leatherwood as the president of the ERLC."

Just hours after the Southern Baptist Convention's (SBC) Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) announced that it had removed Brent Leatherwood from his position as president, the ERLC retracted their press release.
