A new lawsuit against Liberty University claims the Lynchburg, Virginia-based evangelical Christian school has “intentionally created a campus environment” that makes sexual assaults and rapes more likely to occur.

Liberty University has filed a civil lawsuit against its former leader, Jerry Falwell Jr., seeking millions in damages after the two parted ways acrimoniously last year.

Trey Falwell, the son of former Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., has left the school, vacating his post as vice president of university operations roughly eight months after his father resigned in the wake of scandal.

A new petition from a group calling itself Liberty United Against Falkirk is calling for Liberty University to shut down the Falkirk Center, a conservative political think tank at the evangelical Christian school in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Jerry Falwell Jr. wants Liberty to “become the model for others to follow in the future” by planning to keep the campus open after spring break. Others are pushing back at his logic—including Liberty students.

"What precisely is Jerry Falwell Jr. afraid of? He openly encourages students to carry weapons, but is afraid of public prayer from Christians who openly embrace nonviolence,” Jonathan Martin asked after he was kicked off Liberty's campus Monday evening.
