Saddleback Church’s founder and former senior pastor Rick Warren held a non-SBC-affiliated press conference shortly after the tallies were announced.

Standing at a microphone in front of over 12,000 messengers, Pastor Rick Warren defended his view that Saddleback Church should not be disfellowshipped from the Southern Baptist Convention.

Leading up to the SBC presidential election, candidate Mike Stone preached a message in which he accused those who advocate for women serving as pastors of supporting “theological transgenderism.”

Rick Warren posted an apology to “Christian Women” on Twitter in the lead up to his appeal for Saddleback Church to be allowed to remain in the SBC at the denomination's annual meeting this week.

Former SBC president J.D. Greear has weighed in on the controversial disfellowshipping of Saddleback Church from the denomination, a decision that Rick Warren will challenge at the SBC annual meeting next week. 

In the lead-up to the annual meeting of the SBC, Rick Warren has made it known that he will challenge the decision to disfellowship Saddleback Church, most recently in an open leader "to Southern Baptists."

Rick Warren, who recently explained why Saddleback Church is challenging its recent removal from the Southern Baptist Convention, posted a video about “The SBC at the Crossroads.”

While I can respect Rick Warren’s decision to challenge the SBC’s decision to disfellowship Saddleback, I would be remiss if I did not propose an alternative: join an egalitarian denomination instead.
