In an Executive Committee meeting, Joe Knott expressed that he is “terrified” at the thought of the SBC implementing policies “to protect children or women,” policies he believes will leave the SBC legally exposed.

Former Southern Baptist Convention President J.D. Greear says he’s encouraged by the SBC’s bottom-up structure putting power in the hands of lay members.

While many lauded the decision, others pointed out that it stood in contrast to a fellow SBC seminary's decision to keep the names of pro-slavery theologians on its buildings in 2020.

Georgia pastor and former SBC Executive Committee chairman Mike Stone has been accused of helping cover up the misconduct of another Georgia pastor. Stone denies the allegations. 

“This is a new day in the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention,” said committee chairman, Rolland Slade in a video meeting Tuesday. “And our commitment is to be different.”

Ahead of the release of the SBC Sexual Abuse Task Force's report, abuse survivor Tiffany Thigpen took to Twitter to suggest next steps for the denomination at “this historic moment.”
