The Baptist21 (B21) panel at the 2022 SBC Annual Meeting provided a last-minute opportunity to hear from key leaders hours before crucial decisions were made in the Tuesday, June 15, business session.

The breakfast was sponsored by Turning Point USA and Liberty University’s Standing for Freedom Center, with Turning Point USA’s founder and executive director Charlie Kirk in attendance.

The sold out CBN event hosted a panel discussion with SBC presidential candidate Tom Ascol, SBC recording secretary nominee Javier Chavez, and Voddie Baucham, who was running for SBC Pastors’ Conference president.

In what is being called an “unprecedented gathering,” the three announced candidates for Southern Baptist Convention president spent just under two hours answering questions and interacting with one another in a candidate forum Wednesday (May 4).

Baptist Press sat down with Ascol in his pastoral study to get to know him, ask him about his ministry and hear his views on issues being discussed in the SBC.

Rick Warren entered the conversation about who should become the next president of the SBC. What followed was an online conversation about whether Saddleback Church should be disfellowshipped from the denomination.
