Days after disclosing, via video message, that a former deacon at his church had “committed a sexual sin that could also be described as abusive,” Pastor Willy Rice addressed the controversy during Sunday worship.

In a video statement released on Friday, Willy Rice disclosed that, many years ago, a member of the deacon body at Calvary Church in Clearwater, FL “committed a sexual sin that could also be described as abusive.”

Willy Rice, who will accept a nomination for the SBC presidency at the 2022 annual meeting of the Convention, has released a statement regarding another potential contender for SBC president, Voddie Baucham. 

On Friday, Voddie Baucham confirmed that he had been asked to accept a nomination for SBC president. However, his eligibility remains in question as he lives overseas and is not locally connected to an SBC church.
