In his second year in the NFL, Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little has broken the previous field goal record with a 68-yard field goal. While Little is undoubtedly celebrating the accomplishment, his heart is set on a much bigger picture.
“I’ve always had big faith,” said Little in an interview.
Knowing He Is Deeply Loved by God, Cam Little Feels Less Stress About His Kicks
Cam Little is gaining recognition for his incredible kicks and for his humble faith in Christ. He kicked an amazing 70-yard field goal in preseason, but the 68-yard field goal this past weekend counted in the record books. The previous record was a 66-yard field goal, made by Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker in 2021.
“I’ve always had big faith,” said Little. “I grew up going to church my whole life.”
Growing up in Moore, Oklahoma, Cam Little kicked for the local high school. While he received offers from multiple schools, he committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks with a full scholarship. He finished his four-year college career with an 82.8% kicking average.
Little said his faith in Christ has changed how he feels about success on and off the field, according to Crosswalk.
“I was a believer, but I think I really didn’t grasp how much my faith and my relationship with Jesus is more than football,” he said. “[Then] I figured out that regardless of how well I do on a football field—regardless of how bad I do on the football field—Jesus is going to love me the same, and my will for my life has already been decided prior to whatever kick I have to hit.”
He spoke about how he felt about his record-breaking kick and how it would impact him in the long term.
“I don’t doubt that someone will probably break that record at some point,” Little said after the game, noting the rising frequency of long kicks across the league.
Back in August, Little kicked a 70-yard field goal during the preseason, so it didn’t count as an official record. Even then, eyes were on this incredible kicker. In an interview, Little credited his faith after he made the successful kick.
“Regardless if I make or miss that kick, I know I’m out there for a bigger purpose—and that’s to serve my Creator,” he said.
