Roughly a year after stepping down from the pulpit of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (OCBF) in Dallas for an unnamed “sin,” Dr. Tony Evans was featured as a speaker at the FAMiLY Leader Summit last month.

In June 2024, OCBF announced that Evans would step away from his pastoral responsibilities for a period of repentance and restoration.

“The foundation of our ministry has always been our commitment to the Word of God as the absolute supreme standard of truth to which we are to conform our lives,” Evans said at the time. “When we fall short of that standard due to sin, we are required to repent and restore our relationship with God. A number of years ago, I fell short of that standard.”

The church said that the “difficult decision” to have Evans step away from public ministry “was made after tremendous prayer and multiple meetings with Dr. Evans and the church elders.”

“Dr. Evans and the elders agree that when any elder or pastor falls short of the high standards of scripture, the elders are responsible for providing accountability and maintaining integrity in the church,” said OCBF.

When he stepped away, Evans had been pastoring OCBF since its founding more than four decades ago. Additionally, Evans is a sought-after speaker, author, and the founder of The Urban Alternative, a teaching and resourcing ministry.

No official announcement has been made by OCBF regarding Evans’ return to public ministry, and neither OCBF nor Evans have provided any further information regarding the “sin” that led to Evans stepping down.

Last month, Evans was a featured speaker at the FAMiLY Leader Summit. The event is hosted by the FAMiLY Leader, which describes itself as “a Christian ministry to government, transforming America for you and your family.”

During his address, Evans emphasized the importance of discipleship in changing the culture. Referring to the Great Commission, Evans said, “[Jesus] says, ‘Your task is not merely to make converts for heaven, but your task is also to make representatives for earth, since I am the ruler of heaven and earth.’”
