4. Live on Mission
How can we expect young adults to participate in, serve and give to the life of the church if they don’t know or don’t believe in the mission? If you don’t have many young adults at your church or if they’re leaving, maybe it’s due to your mission (or lack thereof). Young adults will get excited about living on mission – if you make that mission biblical, clear and not self-seeking.
Young adults see past gimmicky and cool efforts in the church. They’re looking for real, authentic and genuine. How can you give them an opportunity to engage with the mission of the church?
“From now on, then, we do not know anyone in a purely human way. Even if we have known Christ in a purely human way, yet now we no longer know Him in this way. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. Everything is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed the message of reconciliation to us. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, certain that God is appealing through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, ‘Be reconciled to God.’ He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
2 Corinthians 5:16–21
If we can see others as image bearers of God, then we can ignite a passion and an urgency for loving others to Christ. We’ve come to know Christ’s life, forgiveness, freedom and reconciliation, but it’s ours to share. We can’t hold tight what He’s given us; it’s ours to share freely.
