Brandon Hatmaker: My New Wife ‘Saved My Life’
While discussing the breakup of his 26-year marriage, Brandon Hatmaker noted that his new wife, “may have saved my life—not figuratively, but literally. That’s another story I hope to share one day.”
Later in the post, however, Brandon added more details. “To be blunt, I was suicidal,” he wrote. “When I met Tina, she made me feel human again. She was the first one to help me realize that I didn’t want to die…I just wanted to live better.” Without Tina, he added, “I may not be on this planet.”
Brandon said he doesn’t want pity and realizes he “created some very real self-inflicted trauma through my affair and divorce.” But he said he’s working to process longstanding traumas, including the accidental death of a close friend in 2017.
The former church leader said he hopes to help other people “discuss and learn more about trauma in their lives.” He concluded: “I think the Apostle Paul said it best. ‘For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. – Romans 7:15 (ESV).’”
